Canon is diving head first into 2015, introducing new cameras of all stripes. There is something for everyone in this latest release and we are pleased to present the new consumer favorite Rebel DSLRs as well as the lens kits and accessories that go with them. Also, two new PowerShot point-and-shoot cameras, both as impressive as they are distinct, have been announced.
EOS Rebel DSLRs
Starting with the new Rebels, Canon has announced both the EOS Rebel T6i DSLR and the EOS Rebel T6s DSLR. The cameras are variations on the same basic form, but the T6s features a topside LCD panel in addition to the 3.0" rear LCD, a Quick Control Dial, an integrated Horizontal level and Built-in HDR and Movie Digital Zoom in movie mode. A first for the Rebel line, both cameras offer built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and NFC. With compatibility for EF and EF-S lenses, Canon has also announced new Rebel T6i and T6s kits bundled with zoom lenses.
The T6i and T6s feature a 24.2MP APS-C format CMOS sensor with a native ISO range of 100-12800, which can be expanded to 25600 for shooting possibilities in very low light. The DIGIC 6 Image Processor supports the cameras’ fast performance and image quality, including Full HD movie capture at 24 and 30 fps. Movies can be recorded in the MP4 format for that perfect combination of image quality and ease of upload and sharing on social media. The Hybrid CMOS AF III sensor affords fast and accurate autofocus when using Live View and for holding focus on moving objects in video mode. Still images can be captured at up to 5 fps for effective continuous shooting and a 19-point all-cross-type AF system provides accurate and customizable focusing when shooting via the viewfinder.
The 3.0" Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD monitor with 1040k dots of resolving power provide a sharp method to review images and to shoot in Live View. The flexible position of the LCD enables shooting from high and low angles while retaining a clear view of your scene. Befitting an LCD with touch control, this monitor is treated with a smudge-resistant coating to resist fingerprints and maintain a bright display. Continuing the Rebel’s tradition of being user friendly, compact, and durable cameras, the T6i and T6s offer the EOS Scene Analysis system with a new RGB+IR sensor for better auto capture in a wider range of situations, including tricky flickering light sources and near-infrared light. Built-in Wi-Fi, along with the free Canon Camera Connect app enables fast, wireless image transfer to your computer or smart device and for simple pairing with Android devices, NFC (Near Field Communication) lets you tap to connect camera and smartphone. For creative enhancement of stills and videos, new preset filters can be displayed in real time during Live View shooting.
Providing a complete body and lens system, both the T6i and T6s are made available as kits with zoom lenses. The EOS Rebel T6i DSLR Camera with 18-55mm IS STM Lens bundles the T6i with this EF-S mount lens, offering wide-angle to short telephoto perspectives with a 29-88mm focal-length equivalency. Its internal focus system and Stepping Motor provide fast and near-silent autofocus, which in turn supports the Movie Servo feature for continuous AF in movie mode. Manual focus override is possible when in AF mode for instant critical focus, and Optical Image Stabilization provides the equivalent of up to four stops of shake correction for blur-free imaging, even in low light. One aspherical lens element controls aberrations and optimized lens coatings reduce ghosting and flare. The EOS Rebel T6i DSLR Camera with 18-135mm IS STM Lens includes the very versatile and compact EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, which reaches a 35mm focal-length equivalence of 216mm for a broad focal range from wide-angle to full telephoto. Optical Image Stabilization controls blur when shooting in low light or at long telephoto lengths and Dynamic Image Stabilization works in Movie Mode to reduce the jittering effect of camera movement. A Stepping Motor and high-speed CPU connections enable fast, smooth, and quiet autofocus while aspheric and Ultra-low dispersion lens elements reduce aberrations and provide sharp, high-contrast images. The EOS Rebel T6s DSLR Camera with 18-55mm IS STM Lens bundles the T6s with the above mentioned 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for a flexible, easy-to-use zoom system.

For those more comfortable with point-and-shoot cameras, Canon has introduced two models that are sure to please distinct users—those who favor compact design and those who prefer a long lens. The PowerShot ELPH 350 HS Digital Camera is available in Black or Silver editions and, like its predecessor the ELPH 340 HS, it is a very compact, convenient camera that offers high-resolution imaging, Full HD video, and Wi-Fi connectivity. With a body that is less than an inch deep and less than 4" wide, the 350 HS is smaller than most smartphones, and its built-in Wi-Fi with NFC means that transfer of images from camera to phone and then to social media is just a few taps away. Compatibility with the Canon Connect Station CS100 device offers simple wireless transfer to 1TB of hard-drive space. And image quality, with a 20.2MP CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 4+ Image Processor, surpasses that of most smartphones, especially in terms of low-light capability. Also, the lens on this tiny wonder provides a 12x Optical zoom with 25-300mm focal range equivalence for capturing images in both wide-angle and super-telephoto perspectives. Intelligent Image Stabilization with several IS modes helps to create virtually blur-free images throughout the zoom range, even in low-light conditions, and Zoom Framing Assist automatically zooms in or out, tracking your subject and helping to keep it in focus. A 3.0" 461k-dot rear LCD provides both composition and playback viewing.
Designed for entry-level shooters as well as more experienced photographers who appreciate the camera’s size, the ELPH 350 HS offers a wealth of features that make it easy to capture tough shots and to add creativity to standard images. Auto Zoom, for example, enables the camera to zoom-in to the most advantageous perspective for each shot and Smart AUTO will intelligently select camera settings based on 32 predefined shooting situations. Creative Shot Mode uses the composition and color from your original shot to create unique image with touches of artistic flair. For comprehensive imaging capability in a very compact form, the ELPH 350 HS is the latest and greatest that Canon has to offer.

The PowerShot SX410 IS Digital Camera is available in Black or Red, and it is the latest long-zoom point-and-shoot camera from Canon. With a 40x optical zoom lens, the SX410 provides the 35mm focal-length equivalence of 24-960mm for comprehensive wide-angle to ultra-telephoto shooting. Complementing the long focal length is an optical image stabilization system with Intelligent IS to control the blur that comes with camera shake. This feature is particularly beneficial when shooting at the telephoto perspectives this camera provides.
A 20MP sensor and the Canon DIGIC 4+ Image Processor provide high-resolution images with fast performance speeds, and a dedicated movie button enables immediate access to 720p HD video capture. A 3.0" LCD offers a wide viewing area for composition and playback, and ECO mode helps reduce power consumption to extend the charge on the camera’s Li-Ion rechargeable battery. For simplified operation of this camera, SMART auto mode selects the most effective settings based on the scene. For still images, 32 predefined scenes are available for the camera to recognize and 21 predefined video situations are supported. Also, Scene Modes such as Fisheye Effect, Toy Camera Effect and Monochrome offer creative possibilities. The SX410 IS provides a newly designed, large, curved hand grip, as well as comfortable placement of control buttons and a convenient built-in flash unit.

Accessories
Canon has also announced a plethora of accessories for these new cameras, as well as items to fill out the kits for existing cameras and lenses. The LP-E17 Battery Pack is the rechargeable battery for the Rebel T6i and T6s DSLRs, and the LC-E17 Charger for LP-E17 Battery Pack is the charger for this battery. Both are replacement or extra accessories of items that are included with the camera purchase.
The ACK-E18 AC Adapter Kit and DR-E18 DC Coupler are also both designed for the EOS Rebel T6i and T6s DSLRs and offer the means with which to power your Rebels from a wall outlet for extended shooting or downloading or simply to save battery power. The ACK-E18 AC Adapter Kit includes the DR-E18 DC Coupler, which is placed in the camera’s battery compartment and connects to the AC cable. The DR-E18 is also available separately. The BG-E18 Battery Grip is specifically designed to fit the Rebel T6i and T6s cameras and not only extends the shooting time with a slot for an additional battery, but offers a more comfortable grip when holding the camera in the vertical position.
The MG-Eb Magnifire and MG-Ef Magnifire slip into the eyepiece of the new Rebels and provide a magnified view of your subject in the viewfinder. Also, the EH27L Semi-Hard Case for the T6s and T6i cameras has been announced and will protect the cameras with a lens attached. Finally, the new EW-100DBV Wide Strap is a notably comfortable strap compatible with any Canon DSLR, including the new Rebels.
As noted, Canon is releasing several new cameras and accessories, and these items will be officially introduced at the CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging Show in Yokohama, Japan. I’m happy to report that B&H will be in attendance at the Expo, February 12-15, 2015. We will be sending back daily updates, details and hands-on reviews of these cameras and many others.
