Continuing to push the limits of its optics, Rokinon has just announced the SP 50mm f/1.2 Lens for Canon EF-mount DSLRs, adding to the company’s Special Performance line in the days leading up to WPPI. This lens is designed for full-frame cameras, where it provides a “normal” perspective with an ultra-fast maximum aperture, resulting in images with exceptionally shallow depth of field. This prime also claims to be able to resolve upwards of 50MP and 8K, effectively future-proofing it and making it suitable for any of Canon’s current crop of DSLRs.
This 50mm features a smooth focusing ring for manual operation and has contacts for electronic aperture control and transmission of Exif data. For sharp, clean images, the lens features aspherical and high refractive elements in its construction, as well as an Ultra Multi-Coating. It will accept 86mm filters on a non-rotating front thread and has a nine-blade diaphragm for smooth bokeh. The lens offers clean aluminum-alloy construction for durability and comfort.
The SP 50mm f/1.2 joins the SP 14mm f/2.4 and SP 85mm f/1.2, and becomes the third lens in Rokinon’s high-end Special Performance series.
