Leica was showing off all its latest releases at WPPI, including the CL mirrorless camera. This APS-C model is a modern reimagining of a classic and is loaded with current technology. At its heart is a 24.2MP sensor and the Maestro II processor, letting it operate at sensitivities up to ISO 50000 and at continuous shooting rates of 10 fps. Also, the CL offers UHD 4K video, adding to its quite impressive feature set. Of course, it has a beautiful design that could’ve only come from the German manufacturer.
Alongside this was the SL and the just-announced APO-Summicron-SL 75mm and 90mm lenses, though the stars of this show are the brand-new SF 60 Flash and SF C1 Remote. This portable, yet powerful, unit is a perfect match for Leica’s mirrorless and rangefinder cameras and, with the remote, it can be quickly set up off-camera when needed. There is even TTL support for near-automatic operation.
We were lucky to get our hands on the Noctilux 75mm f/1.25. A beautiful lens and wonderfully engineered, the new Noct balanced almost perfectly on the SL, and focus was as buttery smooth as we have come to expect from Leica. This is the portrait lens for Leicaphiles, and after just a couple of moments with it in our hands, we knew it was a winner.
Leica is legendary in the photo world, and the company’s showing at WPPI was nothing short of impressive. For the latest news, be sure to follow us at B&H Explora. Thanks for watching.
