The GorillaPod has become more than just a flexible camera support, with many photographers and videographers using it to mount lights, microphones, and other accessories in various places. Now Joby has made it even easier to create a complete support setup, with the GorillaPod Rig, which takes the standard tripod and gives it flexible arms for adding essential accessories. Also, for current owners of a GorillaPod 3K or 5K Kit, an upgrade is available that will transform your compact support into a rig ideal for content creators.
To become a full-fledged rig, the GorillaPod Rig offers a few changes that add to its capabilities. It starts with the GorillaPod flexible tripod, which can hold up to 11 lb, and adds two smaller six-socket arms, each with a 1/4"-20 mount, via a removable hub plate adapter for working with most accessories. This setup allows shooters to quickly position their camera and then adjust the lights, mics, or other items as needed for each shot. Add to this the included Arca-type compatible ball head for the camera and you have a highly compatible and versatile system. Also, the rig includes two cold-shoe mounts, a GoPro mount, and a quick-release carry/mounting strap for enhanced versatility and portability. Joby didn't forget about you mobile-centric shooters either, as the company has announced a GorillaPod Mobile Rig that features the GripTight Pro 2 Mount, which has its own cold-shoe mount on top for even more accessories.
There is one more announcement from Joby that goes beyond its standard tripod: the GripTight PRO TelePod. This nice compact support takes the selfie stick and elevates it by giving it three small legs that are ideal for 360 applications, since the smaller legs will not interfere with the shot as much. The size also makes it great for use as a selfie stick or as a stand for smaller cameras and smartphones up to 2.2 lb. A Bluetooth remote is included, as well.
