Nikon’s entry-level DSLRs have always been perfect for beginning photographers, and it’s great to see them getting some additional love with the release of the redesigned D3500. This camera is the company’s smallest and most portable DSLR and presents users with a redesigned control scheme that makes it more comfortable, in addition to already stellar technical specifications.

Internally, the camera remains quite like its predecessor, with a 24.2MP DX-format CMOS sensor and the EXPEED 4 processor delivering sharp, crisp imagery at sensitivities up to ISO 25600. It can also operate at up to 5 fps when shooting continuously and offers Full HD video recording at up to 60 fps. The 0.85x optical viewfinder, 11-point AF system, and 3.0" 921k-dot rear LCD all make a return.

Where the D3500 differs is in its looks and feel. The camera has an improved grip for ergonomics, a button layout more in line with the D5000-series DSLRs, and has Bluetooth for SnapBridge compatibility and near-immediate sharing of images to your smart devices. The D3500 is an ideal step up for photographers looking to upgrade from a compact or even a smartphone because it provides a Guide Mode and smart auto results to introduce shooters to various settings and controls in a clear manner. It is also a great choice for travel and vacation—it weighs just 12.9 oz, measures 4.9 x 3.9 x 2.8", and has a rated CIPA battery life of 1,550 shots per charge.

You can purchase the D3500 with the 18-55mm VR Lens or in a two-lens kit that adds a 70-300mm lens. If you are looking for more information or have any questions about this new DSLR, make sure to leave a comment below!
