Photography has a reputation for reflecting reality, but… it has very little to do with reality. As a photographer, I get to create my own reality. There is no such thing as an objective photo. As soon as I take a picture, I am being inherently subjective.
I literally get to crop out the parts I don't like. I choose which moments to freeze in time. I use shadow and light, composition and color, and tools both technical and artistic, to create what I see in my mind's eye. The resulting images may not accurately reflect an objective reality, but they are more authentic because of my choices.
