Mountains, models, music, and planes. We can think of no better way to kick off a trip to Vegas and the WPPI show. It’s also why B&H’s Creative Partnerships team held its first ever DayTripper event this past weekend. Being the first of hopefully many events, B&H wanted to get things started right by choosing the intriguing locale that is the El Dorado Canyon Mines. Located just 45 minutes away from the famous Las Vegas Strip, this quaint little town looks like it was taken right out of a Coen brothers’ movie set; a perfect environment for creators and photographers to play around.

Diving into the nitty gritty of the event, B&H invited local creators and photographers attending WPPI to come spend the afternoon at the mines while getting in some networking while they were there. The town has numerous exciting scenes to photograph, including classic cars positioned around the landscape and some barns filled with antiques. You could argue that just a day is nowhere near enough time to capture all the details. B&H also brought along three models, each with a unique look, and let the photographers get creative with the types of shots they wanted to make.

Old cars, exploded planes, and a piano sitting around cacti certainly make for an interesting day of shooting, but that isn’t all that happened. The invitees were given a private mine tour to experiment with low light and learn about the history of gold mining in the American West. You can still see quartz veins streaking through the mine and the patterns of those who meticulously chiseled their way in to find gold. After the full day of shooting there was a moment to kick back and relax with food and drink, while enjoying live music, before heading back to the hustle and bustle of The Strip.
If you happen to be in Las Vegas this week for WPPI, you should definitely stop by the B&H booth. We have a shooting experience where you can try out all the latest equipment and several experts who will help you make your next gear decision. The show floor is open on Wednesday, February 27 and Thursday, February 28, from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., and on Friday, March 1, from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. We hope to see you there!
