WPPI 2019: Leica Adds 35mm f/2 to Summicron-SL Lens Lineup

Leica mirrorless shooters looking for a solid, everyday wide-angle prime should look no further than the newly announced APO-Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH Lens for full-frame Leica L-mount cameras. Like other Summicron-SL lenses, the 35mm includes Dual Syncro Drive stepping motor for extremely fast and quiet focusing capabilities, making this a great option for street and event photographers. Studio shooters and manual focus fans will appreciate a new focusing ring construction that uses a ring magnet to relay focus adjustments in the lens while keeping the lens sealed against the elements and protected from impact.

Matching the characteristics of other Summicron-SL lenses, this 35mm f/2 is compact, while producing images that rival faster and larger lenses of the same focal length. An apochromatic design incorporating anomalous partial dispersion glass and five aspherical elements keep images sharp with minimal distortion. Additionally, multi-layer coatings manage flare and ghosting. A minimum focusing distance of 10.63" adds the ability to get up close to subjects and an aperture range of f/2-f/22 offers allows you to keep as much or little in focus you desire. The 35mm f/2 continues the exacting quality expected of the Summicron-SL series of lenses including weather sealing and a water-repellent AquaDura coating to optical surfaces for protection against moisture.
