Cameras just keep getting better, and this time it’s something you may already own. Olympus has just announced firmware Version 3.0 for the OM-D E-M1 Mark II and Version 1.1 for the OM-D E-M1X. Also, the company has updated its Olympus Workspace software to Version 1.1. All these updates will be made available for free and for download from Olympus’s support pages.
There is a long list of changes coming to each camera. The E-M1 Mark II gains dramatically improved autofocus performance, effectively bringing it closer to that of the flagship E-M1X. It also adds group 25-point to AF Target, C-AF Center Priority, and plenty of other new modes to help further customize shooting. Low-light autofocus now can reach -6 EV when using an f/1.2 lens for extremely dark situations. Low ISO processing (Detail Priority) is available for recording finer details with minimal noise. Enhanced operability is the last upgrade; multiple changes fall into this category. Some examples are an anti-flicker mode, OM-Log400, ISO L100 added, and much more. Finally, both the E-M1 Mark II and E-M1X support new functions in the updated Olympus Workspace.
When using Version 1.1 of the Olympus Workspace Image Editing Software, there are a few helpful new functions. Focus stacking has been added for compositing images shot in Focus Bracketing, a Lighten Composite and Darken Composite has been added to make images similar to Live Composite on your camera, and USB RAW Data Edit will permit faster raw processing by using the TruePic VIII image processor of a connected camera.
