Working in photography and video is the way of life for the modern content creator. Manfrotto obviously thought about that when it was developing the Befree 3-Way Live Advanced as an ideal hybrid travel tripod that can perform admirably for either application. This tripod has also been designed for Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras, which makes a lot of sense, considering the system’s popularity for video and photography.
An Innovative 3-Way Head
For tripods, what really distinguishes one from another is the type of head it accepts. The 3-way fluid head on top of the Befree 3-Way Live Advanced is a unique offering that is travel-ready and ideal for hybrid shooters.
The fluid head allows for smooth pan and tilt movements, and its fully foldable handles ensure that it will be ultra-compact for transport. The head will support systems up to 13.2 lb, meaning your everyday mirrorless camera will be rock-solid steady. For enhanced shooting, there is a long panoramic handle, three bubble levels, and the head can be set to portrait position.
The head will also work with select Arca-type compatible plates, as well as the Manfrotto 501PL. The Fluid Drag system, handle locking system, rubberized grip, and compact from factor make this a solid choice.
Designed for Sony Alpha
What customizes this tripod for Sony Alpha cameras are a few small adjustments. The most obvious is the use of cinnabar accents and a custom-designed cinnabar quick-release plate. Notice that the plate has a slight lip in the front that will prevent it from rotating during use. It will be important to keep in mind that as Sony iterates on its camera designs, it does limit current compatibility of this plate to the a7 II, a7 III, a7R II, a7R III, a7S II, and a9.
Legs that Can’t Be Beat
Based on the aluminum Befree Advanced tripod legs, the latest version shares all the original’s advantages. The system as a whole can be quite compact, folding down to just 15.75" and weighing just 4.3 lb. Of course, it also has a sturdy design with extra emphasis on the spider to reinforce the core of the tripod. The tripod will reach 52" at maximum height and can bump up to 59.5" with the center column extended.
For quick operation, there is a quick flip-lock mechanism to extend and collapse the lens. Also, the side-pull selector is easy to operate for adjusting the leg angle. Other features on the legs include an Easy Link attachment point for adding accessories, and a hook to add weight for extra stability.
Additionally, the tripod comes with a bag that makes it ideal for travel.
This looks like another solid offering in Manfrotto’s Befree line. Might it be your next tripod? Let us know in the Comments section, below!
