After bringing anamorphic shooting support to the GH4 earlier this year, Panasonic is bringing yet more advanced video functionality to the camera with a V-Log L Function Upgrade Option. This adds log shooting for an improved dynamic range of 12 stops, along with the ability to more easily match and grade files in post production. Along with this upgrade, Panasonic is also bringing out a fast and compact Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens and an updated Lumix G Vario 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II ASPH. MEGA O.I.S. Lens, which is now smaller than previous models and compatible with the new Dual I.S. System on select cameras.
V-Log L Function
Users looking to maximize their dynamic range in video will benefit greatly from the V-Log L Upgrade now available for the GH4. This optimized gamma profile flattens the image recorded by the GH4 to increase dynamic range to 12 stops, up from the original 10, and offer more versatility during color grading. Another huge benefit of this option is the ability to more easily match color and looks from high-end Varicam systems which utilize the standard V-Log profile. V-Log and V-Log L both benefit from the same characteristic curve and LUT options, making them easy to implement in a single timeline during post production. Also, they are based upon the Cineon curve used for film digitization.

Offering a 35mm equivalent focal length of 50mm, Panasonic’s Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens offers Micro Four Thirds shooters a normal perspective along with a fast maximum aperture for smooth out-of-focus areas and excellent light-gathering capabilities. Further benefitting image quality is the implementation of an Ultra-High Refractive index (UHR) element, which provides uniform imaging out to the edges of the image, and two aspherical lenses, which minimize spherical aberrations and distortion. Hybrid photo/video shooters will also find usefulness for this optic, thanks to the use of a smooth, silent, and fast stepping motor for autofocus. Additionally, the compact 2-inch-long lens weighs just 4.4 ounces and takes a 46mm filter, making it an easy addition to your camera bag.

The venerable standard zoom sees an update with the release of the super compact 1.9-inch-long Lumix G Vario 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II ASPH. MEGA O.I.S. Lens. Equivalent to 28-84mm, this lens covers wide angle to short telephoto perspectives and its MEGA O.I.S. image stabilization can be upgraded to support the advanced Dual I.S. system, introduced with the recently released GX8, for producing sharp, smooth imagery in both stills and video. The lens also provides high-quality imaging with two aspherical elements that reduce aberrations and distortion. And, it has a circular 7-blade diaphragm that creates smooth out-of-focus areas.
