After attracting professionals with their first full-frame offering, Pentax is now revamping their mid-range series by releasing the K-70 DSLR Camera. Packing a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and the latest PRIME MII processor, as well as in-body Shake Reduction, the K-70 offers a plethora of high-end features along with outstanding image quality. Also, sporting an all-weather body design gives it that signature Pentax ruggedness we have come to expect. Alongside the camera is an HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm f/4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE telephoto lens for APS-C cameras. This lens features the company’s first pulse motor, or PLM, for fast, accurate, and quiet focusing during stills and video.

With an updated 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor that forgoes the AA filter, users will be able to capture crisp, high-resolution images with ease. Combined with the in-body SR shake reduction system and you will be able to work in a variety of conditions while minimizing the effects of camera shake. This mechanism also provides a couple of added features, namely the Pixel Shift Resolution mode with Motion Correction for capturing exceptionally fine detail and extreme color accuracy and the AA Filter Simulator for reducing moiré in fine textures. The PRIME MII processor provides fast operation along with sensitivities up to ISO 204800 for working in low light.

The K-70 is quite fast, using an 11-point SAFOX X hybrid autofocus system and sporting a continuous shooting rate up to 6 fps. Also, it has a class-leading max shutter speed of 1/6000 second. The camera will also capture Full HD 1080p video at up to 30 frames per second. Other useful features built into this mid-range model include 4K interval recording and star stream, built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, and a variety of customizable controls and buttons. It will also work with Pentax’s entire line of K-mount lenses, including both APS-C and full-frame options.

Pentax always has a desire for tougher cameras, and the K-70 is no exception with a dustproof and weather-resistant build. The camera is capable of working at temperatures as low as 14°F and it has a vari-angle 3.0” 921k-dot LCD screen for working at odd angles and positions. Additionally, it has an outdoor view setting for working in bright sunlight as well as a night vision red light mode for preserving your natural vision on dark nights. The K-70 is compatible with the O-GPS1 for GPS and AstroTracer functionality as well.

The K-70 is available as a body only or as a kit with a 18-135mm lens in black or silver.

The HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm f/4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE provides APS-C shooters with a long-reaching 84.5-460mm equivalent telephoto zoom that is great for capturing distant and elusive subject matter. The pulse motor ensures fast, quiet focusing and when put together with electromagnetic aperture control, videographers will be able to easily capture smooth, clear footage in various conditions. The lens is relatively compact and can retract when not in use and features 11 seals to protect against intrusion from water and dust. Also, it has an HD coating to limit flare and ghosting along with a rounded 9-blade aperture for smooth bokeh.
