This week in the news: After a long, restful, winter slumber, the explosion of the 2015 CES trade show has left The Gear Roundup a bit exhausted after a week where, according to the PBS Newshour, over 20,000 new products were released in a week of excitement in Las Vegas. We kept you up to speed on much of it and our site is still rich with fairly new stuff from CES, so, after you read this roundup, stick around and see what else you might enjoy. Even with the massive amount of releases from last week, The Gear Roundup has a few new things to highlight from this week...

Following closely on the heels of their big CES announcements, Fujifilm has released a small posse of exciting new cameras and lenses that add to their very popular X-series line as well as new cameras joining their point-and-shoots, super zooms, and rugged cameras.
The X-series welcomes the new X-A2 Mirrorless Digital Camera, with a 175° tilting LCD screen for selfies. The point-and-shoot is the new XQ2 Digital Camera with a particularly attractive design. Updating their tough camera series is the FinePix XP80 Digital Camera. And, for the fans of the super zoom, the FinePix S9800 Digital Camera is a telescope in your pocket with a long reach of 1200mm (35mm equivalent). Its brother is the Wi-Fi capable FinePix S9900W Digital Camera.
The X-series lens lineup continues to grow with the new XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS II Lens, included with the X-A2, and the XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS II Lens, which offers an expanded zoom range for more versatility.

Ricoh Imaging just made your search for a great pair of binoculars easier with the announcement of 34 (no, that's not a typo) new pairs of high performance Pentax sport optics.
Aligning tech, price point, and capabilities, the Pentax lineup is broken up into different series to simplify things for you, the customer, and for me, the writer of The Gear Roundup.
Last in the alphabet, but representing the flagship of the Pentax lines, the Z Series roof prism binoculars are waterproof, fogproof, equipped with a magnesium-alloy housing covered with grippy rubber, BAK4 prisms, and awesome coatings. They come in the following sizes: 8x43 ZD ED, 10x43 ZD ED, 10x50 ZD ED, 8x43 ZD WP,10x43 ZD WP, and 10x50 ZD WP.
The Z Series is joined by the porro prism and roof prism S Series (9x42 SDWP,8x42 SD WP, 10x42 SD WP, 8x40 SP WP, 10x50 SP WP, 12x50 SP WP, 20x60 SP WP, 8x40 SP, 10x50 SP, 12x50 SP, and 16x50 SP), A Series (9x32 AD WP, 9x28 AD WP, 8x36 AD WP, 10x36 AD WP, 8x25 AD WP, 10x25 AD WP, 8x30 AP WP and 10x30 AP WP), and last, but not least the ultra-portable U Series (6.5x21 PAPILIO II, 8.5x21 PAPILIO II, 8x21 UP in Black, Navy, and Pink, 10x21 UP in Black, Navy, and Pink, 8x25 UP, 10x25 UP, 8x25 UP WP, 10x25 UP WP, and the 8-16x21 UP in Black, Brown, and Green). Did I forget anyone? Good!
The Gear Roundup personally can't wait to try these out at the store and is secretly glad the 7x50s were not upgraded as it just purchased a pair as a holiday gift last month!

Other news you might have missed...
- Another sign of the apocalypse... a college class on selfies.
- I'll be the first to say that too much attention is paid to megapixel counts, but this might sway me.
- Lightroom Mobile is available for Android phones and tablets. Jealous!
- Happy 40th, Tyler! (Let's see if he reads this).
And finally, you've probably seen photos online from the Cassini probe, IMO the solar system's greatest robotic photographer, but feel free to spend some time relaxing and soaking up even more majestic images here.
...and that's your news for the week of January 12th, 2015.
