Vivienne Gucwa is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Queens, and residing in Manhattan for the past decade. A self-taught photographer, she began making pictures in 2009, with a simple point-and-shoot camera. Choosing a direction and traveling through the city as far as her feet would take her, Gucwa’s limited equipment forced her to learn about light, composition, and color. In her images, she strives to capture the beauty of both well-known New York landscapes and less visited parts of the city, with a goal of sharing that beauty and diversity with the rest of the world.

In 2010, Gucwa began publishing her photographs in the blog, nythroughthelens.com, and sharing this content across an extensive social network, which has since garnered her a massive online audience of 2.5 million followers. Today, she shoots assignments internationally, and her images have been featured in publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian, and The New York Post; websites such as Buzzfeed, Mashable, My Modern Met, PetaPixel, and The Huffington Post; used for multitudes of album and book covers; and broadcast on television. In 2014, Gucwa published NY Through the Lens in book form. That same year she was named Sony’s 10th Artisan of Imagery.
