Taking its lenses to new dimensions in a variety of ways, Samyang has introduced the first two lenses in a premium XP line of manual focus lenses for DSLRs, as well as having released two more autofocus lenses for Sony E mirrorless cameras.
Looking at the XP lenses first, Samyang has released a pair of sophisticated primes for Canon EF-mount DSLRs. The XP 14mm f/2.4, the wider of the two, balances the immersive super-wide field of view with an advanced optical design that helps to realize sharp imagery void of color fringing and various aberrations. At the other end of the focal length spectrum is the XP 85mm f/1.2; an impressively fast portrait-length lens featuring aspherical and high refractive index elements to promote high sharpness and accurate rendering. Both lenses also incorporate Samyang’s Ultra Multi-Coating to suppress lens flare and ghosting and have a lightweight, durable aluminum-alloy construction with smooth, grippy focusing rings.
For the mirrorless shooter who isn’t particularly fond of manual focus lenses, Samyang has also added another pair of primes to its new autofocus series of lenses for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras. A super wide-angle again, the AF 14mm f/2.8 FE takes its place as the widest lens in the series and utilizes a series of aspherical and ED elements to render sharp, clear imagery. Slightly longer is the normal-length AF 50mm f/1.4 FE, which also makes use of aspherical elements to reduce spherical aberrations for notable image sharpness. Both of these lenses also feature an Ultra Multi-Coating, to reduce flare and surface reflections, and have a full-time manual focus override for those times when a bit of fine tuning is needed.
