In what one journalist characterized as “the big tease,” the Pentax division of Ricoh is showing an impressive array of prototype “concept cameras and lenses” at the 2015 CES Show in Las Vegas, but you can only peer at them longingly through the thick Plexiglas enclosures. No tech specs were provided, but it was pretty clear that the two impressively long lenses were long-range telephoto K-mount zooms of unspecified focal length, and they seemed to be robustly constructed and beautifully finished—but had no markings.

The three mystery cameras in a second display were all very attractive in the traditional restrained Pentax “contemporary classic” manner. In the same manner that there would be an entry-level, middle-tier and advanced camera, the black camera on display at the front of the showcase featured a more complex-looking control array and a swing-out swiveling LCD, marking it as possibly a more advanced model. We were told that all feature APS-C-sized sensors and built-in Wi-Fi, and one gentleman at the booth hinted that they may incorporate an advanced and innovative image-stabilization system. Fascinating, indeed.
